Abstract
Cinema itself is a sort of lens through which we can examine everything, including the history of mankind. At times such as these, when we are so heavily influenced by the sights and sounds of the media, a spectator can be rendered powerless by a form of intellectual siege. Currently, there is no established program of studies that has effectively shed light on this media induced barrier. Our conceptualization of mankind’s history as it is portrayed through film —whether it is the main subject or just part of the background— is directly affected by our lack of education as spectators, which weakens our understanding of the spectacle that is taking place before our eyes. To what point will a spectator try to rid himself of this ignorance? We don’t know. But there could possibly be a light at the end of the tunnel. There may be a new way of relating history through one of the oldest cinematic genres, war films.Downloads
