Abstract

This article focuses on the shortfilm productions of the Spanish animator María Lorenzo Hernández through discussing her film philosophy and the specific production processes that she uses. It also highlights the special connection she sees between cinema and vampirism, which has become all the more evident since animation may now haunt non-living things, such as drawings or objects, giving them illusory movement. This special influence of lifedeath in animation emerges in Lorenzo’s films: the first of which re-creates Dracula from the point of view of a painter, Portrait of D. (2004), while the second one was inspired by carnivorous vampire-plants, ultimately producing The Carnivorous Flower (2009).
